Use of Technology to enhance teaching and learning in Mathematics and Statistics

This paper draws upon the role of interactive technology to enhance teaching and learning in undergraduate courses at our institution. An audience response system (ARS) technology which allows students to respond to questions during lessons using a wireless hand-held device is considered. We discuss the advantages and issues of adapting this system in lectures and describe how use of this technology in teaching could impact positively on student learning and engagement. Student response and current practice at Greenwich suggest that the use of this technology provides an attractive way to make students engage with the lesson and promote interaction enhancing their learning experience.
