Visual pedagogies open up powerful personal and enjoyable ways to engage students in meaningful learning. This presentation will report the findings of a qualitative research project that explored how photo-elicitation employed as a teaching strategy shaped students’ learning. The research participants were university academics enrolled in a Graduate Certificate of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. Photo-elicitation provided an immediate tangible and intimate way of understanding and enhancing students’ learning. The photo-elicitation activities prompted students to think both more deeply and broadly about a topic as they chose or took photographs and were exposed to other students’ perceptions and viewpoints.
