The aim of this session is to present research findings responding to concerns expressed both by staff and within the literature on attendance in formal teaching sessions.
Within Northumbria University past attendance at seminars and tutorials has been a problem but recently this has extended to lectures with staff expressing frustration at the reasons and subsequent impact on the classroom experience.
Session objectives are to:
- identify factors influencing non-attendance by students
- assess the relative importance of these factors
- explore mechanisms to encourage attendance
- compare attendance factors pre and post fees
- evaluate the relationship between attendance and grade over a number of modules/assessment types.
