Advance HE invites applications for a new Chair and two new Board members

22 Aug 2023 | Advance HE The process to appoint a new Chair and two new members to the Board is open.

Advance HE has opened the process to appoint a new Chair and two new members to its Board.

One of the new Board member appointees will also include the responsibility of chairing the Board’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

The recruitment of the new Chair follows the successful two-and-a-half-year tenure of Professor Stephen Marston who has retired. He also served as a Board member prior to being Chair, including serving as Audit, Finance and Risk Committee Chair; and previously he served as a Board member for the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education from 2012.

Alison Johns, Advance HE Chief Executive, said, “I am extremely grateful for Stephen Marston’s leadership of the Board over the past two-and-a-half-years. His commitment and dedication have been absolutely exemplary.

“The new Chair and Board members will join us at an exciting time in our evolution. Having just celebrated our fifth anniversary, the Executive team is embarking on the work to develop a new strategy to guide the organisation through its next five years and beyond, building on the work of the Advance HE Strategy 2021-24.

“We value enormously the contribution of all our Board members in their role to ‘guide, challenge and advise’ as we develop that strategy and continue to deliver on our commitment to ‘help higher education be the best it can be’.

“I welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities, particularly from minority ethnic backgrounds, and specifically those from Black backgrounds, who are currently under-represented on the Board.”

The closing date for applications is 1 September 2023. Details about the roles and application process are available here
