Hong Kong Baptist University achieves Advance HE accreditation

13 Oct 2022 | Advance HE Hong Kong Baptist University has become the second university in the Hong Kong region to achieve Advance HE accreditation, confirming its fellowship scheme aligns with the Professional Standards Framework.

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has recently achieved Advance HE accreditation, confirming that the opportunities for professional development offered by the University aligns with the Professional Standards Framework.

The University has been working with Advance HE since 2018 on recognising the teaching of staff through its Fellowship programme. HKBU mentor the staff whilst they are drafting their applications and Advance HE consultants review the final drafts prior to their submission. The result of this work is many members of staff at Hong Kong Baptist University becoming recognised as fellows across the various categories.

In 2021, HKBU built upon this work as they began the process of applying for accreditation, working with Advance HE to develop and draft their submission. To achieve accreditation, HKBU created a programme for professional development based around the Professional Standards Framework called the HKBU Fellowship Scheme Programme. The programme’s content was based on their experience of supporting their own fellows over the last four academic years, and it allows the University to recognise staff for either Associate Fellowship, Fellowship, or Senior Fellowship depending on what experience they had already attained in the higher education sector.

Ian Hall, Head of International Membership at Advance HE, said, “It has been a pleasure to work with Hong Kong Baptist University over the last four years. The accreditation gives a global endorsement for the work of the staff at HKBU.”

Speaking about the success of HKBU in achieving accreditation, Theresa Kwong, Director at the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning at HKBU, said, “This is a great achievement for the whole team at Hong Kong Baptist University. We’ve enjoyed a great working relationship with Advance HE since 2018 and the chance for us to continue to expand our work with them in this new role is very exciting. It will be a great benefit to the University, allowing us to recognise the great work conducted by our staff.”

Advance HE has successfully accredited the programme for the upcoming academic year, with HKBU planning to run a cohort of the programme every six months.

Advance HE accredits continuous professional development (CPD) programmes which are delivered by higher education providers both within the UK and internationally, aligning professional development to the UKPSF. Find out more.
