Caroline Coles' unique learning and teaching philosophy has been shaped by her own personal journey that helps students to benefit from a high level academic expertise, international business experience, and applied practice as a solicitor. Her expertise in innovative inclusive learning and teaching and a commitment to the internationalisation of the curriculum, has had a transformative impact on students and staff at a local and global level, whether leading students into a real life trial in the New York Supreme Court or into a discussion about Brexit in the EU Commission. Impact of work The impact of Caroline's passion for teaching excellence is seen in the inspiration of confidence in her students to engage with independent learning from the establishment of charitable community projects to setting up their own businesses. At the heart of her teaching is an unswerving commitment to mentoring and supporting students and colleagues around the world. This is reflected in the development of scholarly communities of practice linking students, academics and industry including a development of open educational resources. Her work has sparked developments in mobile learning via the invention of the first app in UK IP law and by showing the way to improve accessible feedback by podcast in several universities around world. Caroline is well known internationally, including at the European Patent Academy, as a lively advocate for research into teaching and has increased funding of this area by her influential work. Using the provision of excellent inclusive, sustainable education that is focused on building students skills in the Knowledge Economy, she is proud that the recognition of her work places UK education institutions high in the global competitive market for higher education. Plans for the future Caroline has started to make progress on future plans to use her skills and contacts to work to the achievement of the national goals for higher education, specifically to run a mentoring project for BAME students and to increase opportunities for international student exchange into Commonwealth countries and the Far East.
