National Teaching Fellow 2008 I have recently been appointed Chair of the Teaching, Learning and Staff Development Committee for the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences at London South Bank University (LSBU) having just completed my term as Undergraduate Programme Director for Psychology. In this role I will be involved in strategic initiatives associated with issues such as retention, e-learning and employability. I joined the Department of Psychology at LSBU in 2003 as a new lecturer. Encouraged by my PGCHE tutors I developed an interactive teaching style, even in large lectures. This seems to have been successful as the following quote from a student email shows: "Thank you for a very interesting and fun lecture today. Some really great comments were made by the students about your delivery style!! We really enjoy your humour!" Highlights of my teaching career have included the development of an introductory careers unit, linked to personal development planning (PDP), which focuses on the theory and practical aspects of becoming a chartered psychologist and the development of an investigative psychology undergraduate unit, focusing on the investigation aspects of forensic psychology. As a result of my interest in Investigative Forensic Psychology I conceived the idea of an MSc aimed at both Police Officers and graduate students. In collaboration with a colleague, Dr Rachel Wilcock, this course has been successfully developed and is now in its second year.  Having studied Psychology as a mature student in order to start a new career, I became interested in equality and diversity issues. I have carried out research into differences in approaches to learning and assessment outcomes associated with age and ethnicity. Results suggest that certain assessment methods may systematically disadvantage some students and this research is continuing .
