National Teaching Fellow 2004 Celia Hunt is a Reader in Continuing Education (Creative Writing) at the University of Sussex, where she has established the Certificate in Creative Writing, as well as the MA in Creative Writing and Personal Development, the first academic programme in Britain to focus on creative writing as a tool for self-reflection and improvement in the practical delivery of healthcare, education and work in the community. Celia was instrumental, together with others, in the foundation of Lapidus (The Association for the Literary Arts in Personal Development). She is the author of 'Therapeutic Dimensions of Autobiography in Creative Writing' (2000) and 'Writing: Self and Reflexivity' (2006; with Fiona Sampson) and editor (also with Fiona Sampson) of 'The Self on the Page: Theory and Practice of Creative Writing in Personal Development'(1998). Celia used her NTFS award to develop and disseminate models of good practice in the use of creative writing for enhancing creativity in the learning process, and is in the process of writing up a book arising out of research on this topic. She has also developed a short course - 'Self, Voice and Creativity in Research Writing' - which uses creative writing techniques in combination with theory of writing, to help research students reflect on their writing process and themselves as academic writers. This course has been very well received by students, and Celia will be exploring these ideas further in other teaching and learning contexts under the general heading of creative writing for personal and professional development.
