National Teaching Fellow 2007 David Burnapp is a Senior Lecturer in Northampton Business School in the University of Northampton where he teaches research methods and study skills. He is recognised as an expert in the field of internationalisation of Higher Education both institutionally and nationally. He has researched widely into cultural aspects of learning and teaching, and as a result has developed innovative ways to enable students and colleagues to challenge their preconceptions concerning education and educational behaviours. His strong association with the Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies has enabled his research to be disseminated across the HE sector. In 2008 he produced an online resource bank of training materials to be used in staff development courses, and this resource is available to all institutions in the sector. He has just completed writing a text book for McGraw Hill/Open University Press: 'Getting Ahead as an International Student' which will be published in August 2009. His research into all aspects of internationalisation has included directing a research project funded by the East Midlands Development Agency into employers' attitudes to the employment of international students and graduates. He is now leading a three year research project funded by the Higher Education Academy into the strategic implications of collaborations in Higher Education. He has a deep personal interest in all aspects of cross-cultural competence, having lived in Vanuatu, Zambia, Algeria, and China. He is currently studying Chinese and visits China several times a year for study and research purposes.
