Dr Heather Skinner

Until the end of July 2013 she was Reader in Marketing at the University of South Wales (formerly the University of Glamorgan). Heather now continues her academic pursuits as a visiting lecturer at Nehemiah Gateway University in Albania, and as a Doctoral Thesis Supervisor for Laureate Online Education.

National Teaching Fellow 2011 Institution at the time of award: University of Glamorgan Dr Heather Skinner now lives on the Greek island of Corfu, having moved in 2013 from her home in the UK. Until the end of July 2013 she was Reader in Marketing at the University of South Wales (formerly the University of Glamorgan). Heather now continues her academic pursuits as a visiting lecturer at Nehemiah Gateway University in Albania, and as a Doctoral Thesis Supervisor for Laureate Online Education. She continues to deliver an exceptional student experience and to research and produce exceptional levels of output. This including two awards for 'Best Overall Paper' and two further awards for 'Paper in Track' at international conferences, and many publications in peer-reviewed journals. In April 2014, Heather hosted and chaired the 1st Corfu Symposium on Managing and Marketing Places, which has since become an annual event. Heather has also recently been appointed as Leader of the Responsible Tourism Special Interest Group of the Institute of Place Management. Heather retains her excellent reputation as an effective, committed, energetic, enthusiastic, and creative teacher, passionate about her areas of expertise, and able to engender a passion for learning in others. Her scholarly activities are underpinned by the high level and quality of her teaching, ability to engage students with both the subject matter and the nature of scholarly enquiry, and commitment to developing the skills required of graduates by industry. Her approach is designed to ensure students have the ability to think critically about their actions, are able to generate creative solutions to marketing problems, and, when in a management role, will be able to evaluate the impact of potential courses of action on their organisation and its stakeholders. Student feedback highlights not only Heather's enthusiasm and innovative delivery approach, but also that students recognise the innovative way she approaches the subject content, embedding a critical and relevant approach to the subject. Heather is recognised as an expert in her academic field of place marketing while continuing to take an active interest in pedagogy as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, motivating and encouraging colleagues to strive for continuous improvement of the student experience.
