Dr John R Bostock

Dr John Bostock is a Senior Lecturer in Teaching and Learning Development (2012-present) and formerly Post-Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) (2007-2012). His commitment to educational development is the beating heart of his career and personal practice, and his thirty-one years experience of teaching includes eleven years in HE. Impact of work His sustained impact is evident in module evaluations and students feedback, which continue to be overwhelmingly positive. He has been consistently nominated each year between 2012 and 2017 and won the student-led Teaching Excellence Award in 2013. He also secured Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2015. John has a longstanding professional interest and investment in linking scholarship with continuing professional development. He developed a university role in the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) to exercise his values and commitment to the professional development of others through leading on the Edge Hill University Continuous Professional Development (EHU CPD) Scheme and the PGCTHE and through presenting and disseminating ideas nationally and internationally. He continues to lead on university-wide forums and working groups to transform and enhance student learning in a positive way, in particular around inclusive practices and student peer mentoring. These have resulted in a University Student Peer Mentoring Policy and an award winning approach to Inclusion and Diversity. He leads a university-wide, collaborative learning and teaching fellowship programme that promotes and maintains a high quality and transformative student experience. His overarching priority is to support colleagues who in turn influence students' development of their intellectual, practical and creative potential. He leads on the development of academic and support staff at Edge Hill University through faculty-focused induction activities and the CLT staff development series. Plans for the future John intends to further enhance the EHU CPD Framework in response to feedback in order to assure its currency and relevance and build capacity not only in the aspirational categories of D3 and D4 but also in that of D1. He will continue to build on the success of the Framework through 'Beyond Fellowship' opportunities for staff, as well as lead, evaluate and disseminate nationally the impact of the CLT Teaching and Learning Fellowship in order to ascertain its clear enhancement of best practice.
