National Teaching Fellow 2015 Through his role at his University's School of Education and  Professional Development Dr Jonathan Glazzard is responsible for leading the primary initial teacher education courses which were rated by Ofsted as 'outstanding' in 2012. Jonathan was promoted to University Teaching Fellow in 2012 on the basis of being able to demonstrate an outstanding contribution to learning and teaching in the University. He has been awarded several student-nominated awards for inspirational teaching, assessment and feedback and student support. Over several years Jonathan has demonstrated an outstanding track record of raising academic standards and improving student satisfaction. His role as a University educator is underpinned by a commitment to a student-centred approach which ensures that all of his students achieve their full academic potential. In 2013 100% of his students achieved a first or upper second class degree and this was sustained in 2014 with 94% of Jonathan's students achieving a first class degree. Feedback on Jonathan's teaching demonstrates the impact of his work on his students. One student commented: "I have really enjoyed my new educational path and I feel this is down to Jonathan Glazzard's commitment and passion and his ability to change the delivery into manageable and easier examples which I can relate to and understand fully." Another student stated: "My Course tutor, Jonathan, has been fantastic - lots of enthusiasm, great support/feedback offered and inspirational in his approach. He consults students on the programme to design session content and he encourages his students to share thoughts, views and ideas. The network of support which he offers students is outstanding." Jonathan's research interests focus on the marginalisation of children and young people with disabilities. His research and teaching are both underpinned by a commitment to the values and principles of inclusion and a determination to give a voice to those who experience discrimination within an educational system which values the principles of neoliberalism. In highlighting issues of social injustice through his research and research-informed teaching Jonathan recognises the transformative power of higher education to create a more socially just society.
