Mike’s model of transformative pedagogy incorporates queer and critical pedagogy and centres on reconstructing educational experiences, creating pedagogic spaces and developing student voice and community engagement. His doctorate looked at the intersection between queer and critical pedagogy.

He has spoken on pedagogic issues at more than 80 academic and professional conferences worldwide including Keynotes in the USA, Paris, Oslo, Vienna, Graz, Copenhagen, Lithuania and Bilbao. He has produced 30 publications, including 10 books on critical pedagogy and conducted and conducted over 30 pieces of funded research and 20 pieces of consultancy in the area.
