She works to continuously raise students academic self-efficacy and has played a key role in supporting student progression, retention and attainment, as well as raising the profile of a creative yet scholarly approach to learning and teaching at the University of Surrey. Naomi is a strong ambassador for evidence-based practice in Education and actively involves students in her research into learning and teaching. She passionately believes that students, as the end users of the research, should be expert consultants and active participants at all stages of the research process, from design to dissemination. She has developed and published innovations in constructivist teaching approaches, formative assessment, active learning and the training of Graduate Teaching Assistants. Most notably, Naomi has undertaken a programme of work that explores students reception of feedback information, and has developed a toolkit of resources to develop the skills that students need in order to understand and make use of their feedback. Along with her collaborators, Naomi has argued for a shift in the role of the student in the feedback process, and trains staff across the UK in the implementation of this approach. Plans for the future Moving forward, Naomi plans to strengthen her application of cognitive psychology to educational practice in the areas of assessment and feedback and supporting the transition to University.
