National Teaching Fellow 2015 Since Dr Roz Sunley began teaching in 1997 she has believed it essential to model passion and enthusiasm for learning. After an earlier career in sales, recruitment and local politics, her approach has always been based on challenge and encouragement, where links between classroom learning and 'real-life' are understood and evidenced. Students and colleagues continue to offer generous feedback on her energy and passion for teaching, their positive learning experiences and increased motivation. This inspires her to continually develop and improve her professional practice. Roz's current roles as senior lecturer and BA Business Management programme leader, from previous similar roles leading an MBA and Secondary Religious Education PGCE, are perhaps a natural progression in her learning journey, as her style of teaching is based on encouraging others in dynamic co-creation, rather than a one-way instructional flow. This reflects her own conviction that learning should be rooted in exploration rather than instruction or prescription. She has retained and developed her passion for learning and teaching during her nine years at the University of Winchester, and refined many of the innovative pedagogical practices she devised earlier in her teaching career. Her creative approaches continue to be stimulated and informed by research and professional development opportunities, both within and outside higher education. Roz has created opportunities to work with colleagues across many different faculties, which continue to challenge her own thinking and practice. She is now looking forward to working with international colleagues in many different areas of her work, including a book around pedagogy for responsible management education with authors from around the world. She will also be hosting an innovating global conference on management education in 2016, and establishing an international working party on pedagogy as part of the Principles of Responsible Management (PRME) UK & Ireland Chapter. She continues to feel both anticipation and excitement in every learning and teaching situation; and as part of her continuing professional development, relishes opportunities to maximise student engagement, and encourage colleagues to transform 'ordinary' into 'extraordinary' teaching experiences.
