Since winning the NTF & CATE as a team leader, Sally has become the EDI Officer for the Committee of the Association NTFs, a professor of business education and Vice Dean at Kings College London and has led several staff networks including a minority ethnic and women’s network. She was the inclusion education lead for KCL 2019-2023 and researches and speaks about EDI and decolonisation.
Before becoming the Deputy Dean (Quality and Student Experience) for the Business School at Anglia Ruskin University, Dr Sally Everett was Head of Department (and a Senior Lecturer) for tourism at the University of Bedfordshire after some time as a researcher at the University of the West of England. Regardless of role or position, Sally has always endeavoured to champion teaching excellence, authentic learning and pedagogic innovation. Examples of her approach include involving employers in curriculum design and assessment, harnessing digital technologies to support active learning, establishing student-partnership initiatives, and embedding real-life consultancy projects into her courses and modules.
Impact of work
As Anglia Ruskin's first Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Sally channelled her energies into supporting others by securing grants to support staff development activities and championing pedagogic practice in areas including internationalisation, team-based learning, and inclusive teaching and assessment practice. In establishing the Centre for Innovation in Business Education, Sally has helped her institution develop a growing reputation for excellence in teaching. The strategies she has implemented have led to massive upward leaps in the NSS across all categories, jumps in league tables for business subjects, and significant improvements in student performance and graduate outcomes.
Plans for the future
As the lead for several staff networks and a Disabled Student Working Group, Sally aims to drive forward inclusive learning and teaching for all. She is proud to have helped to bring about positive cultural change in terms of accessible learning materials, staff training and peer mentoring. Sally's passion for realising positive transformational change continues to be fuelled by the success of her students as well as by those she teaches, mentors and supports. She will continue to build on high impact approaches to assessment practice, investment in active learning spaces and student-led staff development.
Furthermore, she will be expanding the award-winning student intern scheme (CATE finalist in 2016) to overseas partners, bolstering the employability initiatives she has embedded across the school, and ensuring she builds on the impact of the student advisory panel - a body she set up to ensure students are involved in all aspects of staff development (teaching reviews, staff recruitment and policy).
