Dr Sarah Sherwin

Following a career as a community nurse specialising in school nursing, Sarah Sherwin moved to work within higher education. She has extensive experience as the course leader for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing School Nursing, and is involved in delivering a range of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Sarah is committed to delivering teaching in innovative ways to inspire and actively engage students in their own learning and development.

Following a career as a community nurse specialising in school nursing, Sarah Sherwin moved to work within higher education. She has extensive experience as the course leader for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing School Nursing, and is involved in delivering a range of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Sarah is committed to delivering teaching in innovative ways to inspire and actively engage students in their own learning and development. She has supported me through difficult times when I have felt I could not carry on". Sarah is passionate about supporting students to disseminate and publish their work and has co-authored a number of publications with students. Sarah leads a module on clinical innovations and encouraging students to take these forward into practice to impact on client care is a key element of her work. Sarah regularly supports and mentors new members of staff. She has recently established a professional discussion forum, enabling and supporting others to explore and reflect on their practice in relation to learning and teaching. Sarah has completed a Professional Doctorate with her research focusing on school nursing practice. In 2015 she was voted Inspirational Lecturer of the Year by students at the University. Sarah has been awarded the title of Queen's Nurse by the Queen's Nursing Institute, in recognition of providing high quality teaching and support to community nursing students. In 2016 Sarah became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Plans for the future Outside of the University Sarah is an experienced external examiner. She is on the editorial board of a specialist clinical journal, and secretary of the National Forum of School Health Educators which works to raise the profile of school nursing education within the UK.
