National Teaching Fellow 2011 A poet, Dr Sue Dymoke has taught in the School of Education since 2003 where she leads the PGCE (Masters) English and Masters in Teaching and Learning (MTL) programmes and supervises doctoral students. She previously spent 16 years as an English teacher in Nottinghamshire schools and then worked for the Open University, the University of Nottingham and the National Association for the Teaching of English (NATE). Sue specialises in teaching, researching and writing about the teaching of poetry. During 2011-12 she is leading an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Poetry Matters seminar series, for which she secured £18,000 funding with colleagues from the Universities of Exeter and Greenwich. The series brings together teachers, poets, researchers, doctoral students and those working in poetry education to share research and practice in the field of poetry pedagogy. In 2011, Sue has been a visiting scholar at the University of Auckland, New Zealand where she began research on poetry teaching in diverse contexts and led poetry teaching in-service events for teachers. She also wrote new poems which were performed at a Skyped Word of Mouth event on her return to the UK. Sue is committed to developing teachers' confidence and creativity in what is generally considered to be a very difficult aspect of English teaching. She regularly leads poetry workshops for teachers and provides opportunities for them to meet with other poets. She speaks at teacher conferences both nationally and internationally. Sue is a member of the education working group of the national Poetry Archive, a consultant for the Poetry Society and a member of its Poetry Class team. Sue is the editor of English in Education, an international peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes research papers and new poetry pertaining to many aspects of English teaching. Her publications include: Teaching English Texts 11 -18 (Continuum); Drafting and Assessing Poetry (Paul Chapman Publishing); The New Girls - new and selected poems (Shoestring Press) and, with Andy Croft, Not Just a Game: Sporting Poetry (Five Leaves). Recordings of her work can be heard at poetcasting.
