Dr Sue Palmer-Conn

National Teaching Fellow 2004 Sue Palmer is an independent education consultant and coach. Using her previous HE experience as Associate Dean for teaching learning and assessment and student support and guidance, and as Faculty Tutor, and Director of a teaching and research centre, her work focuses on recruitment and retention. She is managing director of Life-Coach UK and its subsidiary University Planning Consultants. Based on her research with students prematurely withdrawing from university, her work with potential students, their parents and teachers, and with university departments has seen an improvement in retention statistics.

Sue is a member of the national advisory panel for PDP guidelines and brings many years of experience in this area to the role. Her reputation for excellence in the field of student support and guidance has seen her working with a variety of HEIs in the UK and overseas, particularly in the development of PDP, personal tutoring systems and sustainable employability. She is now working with schools and colleges helping students with university planning and with Universities working with staff to optimise their recruitment, retention and PDP to maximise potential for both students and staff. Her company Life-Coach UK is fast gaining a national reputation for excellence in improving recruitment and retention strategies and practices. Sue has recently launched a software company, Pro-STAR Global Solutions, whose products aim to improve selection, training, assessment and recruitment for education, business and professions. This software allows organisations to turn training and assessment videos into interactive decision making tools aimed at improving knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours whilst taking account of consequences and decision making processes. This software is currently used by the emergency services, the armed forces, government department as well as higher education.
