Freya Billington

National Teaching Fellow 2015 Institution at the time of award: University of Gloucestershire. Freya Billington is a Course Creator and Programme Leader based in Bristol. She ran Film Production at University of Gloucestershire for five years and was Joint Programme Leader of Filmmaking at University of the West of England. Freya is a Fulbright Scholar and Fellow of Syracuse University, NY where she completed her MFA in Fine Art Film. She is on the Executive Board for NAHEMI (the National Association of Higher Education in the Moving Image, the Board of Directors for the IFA (international Filmmaking Academy) in Bologna and is the External Examiner for the NFTS (National Film and Television School). Freya set up boyandbearfilms in 2014 as a way of developing and producing the films she wanted to make. She has just completed short film NOT WAVING (2016), staring Peter Bowles for Ishorts/Creative England and the documentary HOW? LUCKY (2016) about extraordinary individual Lucky Ndlovu, which she filmed in Finetown Township, South Africa over the last three years. Her experimental musical BREAD AND BUTTER (2014), a collaboration with Conductor/Composer Jennifer Bell, has screened at Film Festivals in Korea, Serbia, Knoxville and Syracuse in the USA, Cambridge and Aesthetica. Previously she worked as an Editor on primarily documentary-based projects for BBC4, BBC2 and the Open University and as a Post Production Supervisor on high end dramas for the BBC including Babyfather, Outside the Rules and The Whistle-Blower. Between 2010 and 2012 she developed and taught film workshops for Actor/Director David Morrissey's charity C.A.S.T (The Creative Arts Schools Trust) working in refugee camps in Tyre, Lebanon and townships outside Joahnnesburg in South Africa and she is planning to do something similar with The Winnie Mabaso Foundation in 2017. She is now a Course Creator and Programme Leader of BA Hons Filmmaking (pathways Production and Post Production) at Boomsatsuma in Temple Meads, Bristol.
