Senior Lecturer in Nutritional Sciences
Haleh Moravej is a Senior Lecturer in Nutritional Sciences at Manchester Metropolitan University. Prior to teaching, Haleh was a commercial entrepreneur with her own nutrition clinic. She has always had a passion for learning, and in the university environment, she found a great place for intrapreneural, critical and creative thinking. This enthusiasm, commitment, passion and sheer pleasure of teaching exemplifies Haleh. As an social entrepreneur, she brings innovation, exploration and sustainability to everything she does. This approach is best exemplified in her award-winning MetMUnch (http://www.metmunch.com/),  a student-led programme that sets the standard for sustainability, nutrition and entrepreneurship across Manchester Metropolitan, local communities and further afield. Impact of work Haleh empowers both students and colleagues to approach their work in a different way; a way that takes in real life experience, champions public engagement and emphasises local, national and international impact. She strives for learning to be a practical experience, in ingenious ways: an insect sushi bar in a museum, summer picnics exploring how food can connect with people, students creating sustainable and futuristic space food. Through all this Haleh shares her creativity, providing students the platform to build on what they ve experienced with their own creativity and ideas. In recognition of Haleh's excellence in outstanding teaching for entrepreneurship, sustainability and employability, she has been nominated and won several awards since starting teaching in 2007, including MMU Union Best Teacher of the Year 2012; National and International EAUC Green Gown Award Winners in Student Engagement 2014 for MetMUnch; UnLtd/ HEFCE SEE Changemakers: Social Enterprise Outstanding Achievement Award 2017; MMU Union Outstanding Teaching for Employability Winner 2016. Most recently, she has been nominated for the 2018 MMU Union Teaching Awards in the category of Outstanding Teaching for Sustainability and by IOEE (Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship) as the Intrapreneur of the year 2018. Plans for the future Haleh's professional development and drive for excellence will continue through working with Manchester Metropolitan University Estate Directorate's colleagues as one of the Service Excellence Project board members, bringing intrapreneurial mindset, passion, innovation and creativity to the University's service delivery. MetMUnch will be delivering nutrition, sustainability and public engagement events and educational sessions at schools, early years learning, museums and mental health charities through a new interactive platform. Haleh and her MetMUnch students will be working with Anxiety UK to launch 'MindMUnch' sessions. This is the first project of its kind to combine nutrition, sustainability and mental health in the country.
