Mr David Comiskey

David Comiskey is a Senior Lecturer in Architectural Technology at Ulster University. He has been involved in the higher education sector for over ten years, firstly as a lecturer and programme leader for an Architectural Technology Foundation Degree at Southern Regional College, before joining Ulster as a lecturer in the same discipline in 2009. David Comiskey is a Senior Lecturer in Architectural Technology at Ulster University. He has been involved in the higher education sector for over ten years, firstly as a lecturer and programme leader for an Architectural Technology Foundation Degree at Southern Regional College, before joining Ulster as a lecturer in the same discipline in 2009. He is a multi-award winning academic with a philosophy of transforming learning experiences for his students via the use of real world scenarios and innovative technologies. His teaching innovations and methods of feedback have been transformative, receiving praise and having a positive impact on student learning and understanding. Such innovations have included the development of Construct Online, a bespoke learning resource incorporating a series of videos to provide a virtual construction site experience, and piloting construction related iBooks. These initiatives have not only benefitted his students, but students at other institutions. David's feedback methods have incorporated screencasting, along with the use of the latest technologies, such as iAnnotate, to maximise learning by providing feedback in a way that is easily understood. A passion for professional education has led David to enhance his students employability skills and broaden their experiences. This has been achieved by developing novel module content and specialist activities, including the opportunity to learn about construction internationally and to visit key European cities to enhance understanding of the Architectural Technology profession. Impact of work The impact of David's work has been far reaching. He was part of the review group for the current Architectural Technology Subject Benchmark Statement and his work has been widely published and disseminated. He uses his strong professional body links to reflect on his teaching and ensure it aligns with current sector developments. His work has been recognised with numerous awards from his own institution and externally. Plans for the future David's ambition is to ensure that his students are continually challenged intellectually, in tandem with striving for innovation in his application of technology for the benefit of his students.
