Mr Joe Bennett

National Teaching Fellow 2004 Joe Bennett is Dean of the School of Music and Performing Arts at Bath Spa University. He established the institution's first Foundation Degree, in Commercial Music, which has become one of the most successful in the sector. It is run as a microcosm of the industry it serves, placing equal emphasis on academic rigour, practical music skills and personal creativity.

National Teaching Fellow 2004 Joe Bennett is Dean of the School of Music and Performing Arts at Bath Spa University. He established the institution's first Foundation Degree, in Commercial Music, which has become one of the most successful in the sector. It is run as a microcosm of the industry it serves, placing equal emphasis on academic rigour, practical music skills and personal creativity. Joe's other firsts include being the first to engage an Industry Steering Group and the first to establish professional development events for visiting instrumental tutors. He participates in the Subject Centre for the Performing Arts and, with 40 titles currently in print, is the UK's most prolific writer on the guitar. His 2004 NTFS award was used to fund an investigation into the teaching and learning of songwriting; the project is still running at http://www.uksongwritingfestival.com.
