National Teaching Fellow 2016 Matthew J. Homewood has extensive experience in teaching and innovative curriculum development and leads on all aspects of learning and teaching across a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and practitioner programmes at Nottingham Law School (NLS). Matthew's teaching expertise lies in the field of European Union law with a particular focus on the internal market, free movement and competition law. He also has significant expertise and an international profile in the use of educational technology and the impact that such technologies can have on student engagement and outcomes and he uses this expertise to enhance the academic experience of all students at NLS. In so doing, Matthew ensures teaching activity is interactive, personalised, inclusive and engaging. In so doing, Matthew ensures teaching activity is interactive, personalised, inclusive and engaging. Matthew is particularly interested in the ways in which social media can be harnessed to enhance the student learning experience through collaborative peer learning workspaces. Matthew's contribution to practice has been recognised by his peers with numerous awards including the NLS Tutor of the Year 2014, the Association of Law Teachers Teaching Law with Technology Prize 2014 and a Highly Commended ALT Learning Technologist of the Year Award 2014. He has shared his work and positively impacted upon approaches to learning and teaching across his institution and both nationally and internationally including Buenos Aires, Washington DC and Verona through conference papers, visiting scholar invites and TEDx style talks.
