National Teaching Fellow 2004 Paul Murray is Associate Professor specialising in Environmental Building and sustainability thinking within the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment. Both the University and the wider academic community have benefited from his dedication and commitment in his role as a supportive teacher and inspirational leader. A major contribution to teaching and learning is his HEFCE-funded FDTL3 project on Student Centred Learning in Construction Education. This project is now highly-valued among staff within UK Construction Engineering. Paul used his NTFS award to promote the effective integration of sustainability within his own and related academic disciplines. As part of this work, Paul has been developing a values-based, personal development training designed to engage individuals personally with the sustainability agenda. To date, his training workshops have been attended by over 300 academics, students and business professionals, achieving a 95% approval rating. Paul now offers these workshops to universities across the country and is writing an accompanying book, 'Sustainability Matters, A Personal Development Approach to the Big Issues of Our Time', which he hopes to publish late 2009. No matter how notable his successes, Paul is dedicated to making improvements in the techniques and resource packages he produces, and to support colleagues in their efforts to provide students with outstanding learning opportunities.
