Mr Symon Thomas Auckland Quy

Symon Quy has worked in education for over twenty years, after gaining a first degree in English and Film at St. Mark and St. John, Plymouth. He qualified as a teacher of English at the University of Cambridge in 1991 before taking post in a West London comprehensive school, where he rose to Head of Department. He then went on to complete a Masters' degree in Education at the University of London and an M. Ed in Research at the University of Cambridge, as the first platform of his doctorate.

Before joining the KSS Deanery team, Symon worked in the Postgraduate School at the Central School of Speech and Drama (University of London) where he was Initial Teacher Education Manager and course leader of the Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education - a course inducting new university lecturers in to the profession. Symon also led the English PGCE programme at London Metropolitan University and was Continuing Professional Development officer for the Media Education Association. Symon was honoured with the award of a National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy in 2005 in recognition of his work within the HE sector and was made an Associate Tutor of the British Film Institute the following year. Symon's research interests include the relationships between emerging technologies and educational discourse, and mediated approaches to learning and teaching. He is a regular contributor to Media and his first book, 'Teaching Short Film' was published by the British Film Institute in 2007. Symon's new role at the KSS Deanery will see him develop a regional strategy for simulation within the region and contribute to the Qualified Educational Supervisor programme, supporting the development of teaching and learning in clinical settings.
