Ms Annie Trapp

National Teaching Fellow 2010 Annie studied psychology at the University of York, and has spent much of her career there, first as Manager of the Computers in Teaching Initiative, and then as Manager and then Director of the Academy's Psychology Subject Centre, based at the University. She has a long-standing interest in the role of technology in learning and teaching, and has made a significant contribution to the educational knowledge base of HE psychology teaching through practice-based research and scholarship in this area. In particular, she has played a major role in several cutting-edge projects to transform the student learning experience, and the creation of technology-based learning materials, such as Internet Psychologist and Dr Stat. Annie has published widely in the field, and has edited the international peer-reviewed journal, Psychology Learning and Teaching for the past ten years. A leading figure on the national and international scene, she is much sought after as a member of professional groups, advisory boards and project steering groups, and has given keynote presentations at conferences in Russia, the US, Italy, Germany and Australia. She is a member of the International Conference of Psychology Education Committee and Chair of the European Psychology Learning and Teaching Association. Annie is an experienced facilitator of Continuing Professional Development workshops for a range of lecturers and teachers at different stages in their careers. She also plays a key role in facilitating collaboration within the wider community of psychology teachers, including setting up the EUROPLAT network, focusing on raising standards in learning and teaching in psychology and the employability of psychology graduates across Europe. Annie has recently convened a working party of major stakeholders to discuss the future of psychology education in the UK. "There is much to be learnt from the few undergraduate courses that are explicitly designed to draw out the application of knowledge to real world situations, provide meaningful work-experience opportunities, encourage periods of international study and endeavour to provide a 'capstone' experience to ameliorate the effects of modularisation," she says. "A National Teaching Fellowship will allow me to develop work in this area."
