Ms Sarah Greer

National Teaching Fellow 2011 Sarah Greer is a passionate believer in providing opportunities for her students, and equal access to the legal profession. At Greenwich she has worked with colleagues to develop a range of impressive employability opportunities for her students with magic circle firms, barristers' chambers and other legal employers. One of Sarah's law students said: "Sarah believes in being able to offer students every possible opportunity to realise their potential. These are created by her enthusiasm and imagination; we drew inspiration and drive from her vision." A passionate advocate of the power of mentoring, Sarah has organised a variety of mentoring schemes for her students and also mentors others. One of her mentees says: "Sarah is a real force! As my mentor, she has been one of the most inspirational people I have met. She encourages excellence in professional development which creates high levels of confidence and achievement in those around her." Sarah works tirelessly to raise the aspirations and achievements of her students and takes great pride in their achievements. A fan of the cheesy motivational quote, much to the amusement of her colleagues, Sarah encourages both students and staff to aim high: "As I speak now, about to complete my degree, I can say that I have truly benefitted from Sarah's counsel, support and encouragement. Looking back three years ago to when I had just started and to the position I'm in now; I know that I could not have done it without her, she is truly passionate about our futures and ensuring that we get the best that we possibly can." (student) Sarah has co-authored a Land Law textbook for Oxford University Press and in 2011 she was a finalist in the OUP's Law Teacher of the Year competition, after nominations from her students, who described her as '"going the extra mile to make learning a thing of joy". She was awarded a University Teaching Fellowship for teaching excellence, and mentors and supports other teaching staff at Greenwich and elsewhere, as well as undertaking and supporting research into teaching and learning law. Sarah is also an active researcher into her own specialism of property law.
