Susan Smith provided academic leadership for enterprise education for the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at Leeds Metropolitan University's Institute of Enterprise for two years until September 2010. She continues to develop this work and wider curriculum development activity in the University's Centre for Learning and Teaching.
After an initial career in neurological rehabilitation as a Chartered Physiotherapist in London and overseas, Sue developed her management career in the NHS. She then worked at Leeds Metropolitan University to fulfil a longstanding wish to move into higher education. Prior to her CETL role, Sue was a Principal Lecturer and University Teacher Fellow in the Faculty of Health at Leeds Metropolitan University, instrumental in developing the innovative MSc Physiotherapy (Pre Registration) programme which adopted a problem based learning approach.
Sue has been the lead researcher in a diverse range of research projects focusing around problem based learning, competency mapping, group working and interprofessional learning for health and social care students and tutors and is respected in her institution for her leadership skills. She has published her work widely in peer reviewed journals in the fields of health and higher education.
Sue has a strong interest in inclusive learning environments, curriculum development, student centred learning and creative interactive learning approaches which develop students' research, analytical and critical thinking skills.
