After studying Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and then Wimbledon School of Art, Professor Alison Honour's teaching career began as a practicing artist, teaching a broad range of art and design subjects including sculpture, painting and drawing, performance art, 3D Design and Architecture. As her academic career developed, her practised based research focused on public art and community engagement with diverse groups and often challenging environments. Alison has held a wide range of academic roles including Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Programme Lead, Head of Department, Associate Dean and most recently Pro Vice Chancellor & Dean. She was awarded PFHEA in 2013 and professorial promotion in 2016 for Academic Leadership & Professional Achievement. Impact of work Alison's work in developing experimental pedagogy for entrepreneurship and innovation as graduate attributes and to enhance employability has been recognised nationally and internationally. The Oxford Brookes' Social Entrepreneurship Award (OBSEA) programme is an award winning programme, securing funding awards of over £200K from UnLtd, selected by HEFCE as best case study for embedding Social Entrepreneurship in HE curriculum and shortlisted and runner up for the Guardian HE Awards. Alison's introduction of Social Innovation in OBSEA has been successful in its aim to engage OFFA group and POLAR region students with all gaining highly skilled employment. Alison has been invited to run workshops and speak at Social Enterprise conferences in Malaysia, USA and UK. OBSEA has grown into the Oxfordshire Social Enterprise Partnership (OSEP) with University of Oxford and has led to Oxfordshire being named the first 'place of social enterprise' in the UK. Plans for the future Alison's recent activity in developing a 'Live Lab for Social Innovation' will allow her to undertake further CPD and to develop interdisciplinary pedagogy alongside students and staff with an aim to develop online toolkit resources and open digital platforms for collaborative knowledge creation. She will continue to work collaboratively on real social issues with community social enterprises and with her growing network of national and international partners. Alison will continue to champion creative and inclusive approaches to engage and empower students from less advantaged backgrounds.
