Professor Andrew Fisher

Professor Andrew Fisher is a Professor of Philosophy and Head of the Department of Philosophy at University of Nottingham with over 16 years experience of teaching in Higher Education. Key to his approach to teaching is the realisation that students come from a rich historical, cultural, educational, political, social and economic background. Andrew gained a PhD in philosophy from St Andrews and has been on a teaching focus contract at the University of Nottingham since 2003. He has a PGCHE, MA in Higher Education and he is a Principal Fellow. Twice winner of the University’s Award for Teaching and voted as one of the most influential lecturers at Nottingham, over the last 100 years, Andrew has taught all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

He is currently Head of the Philosophy Department. Andrew has been involved in a large amount of outreach in primary, secondary and sixth-form. Passionate about EDI, changing aspirations and improving performance in ‘widening participation’ schools, Andrew has made it possible for students to get involved in teaching philosophy to local primary school children.
