Her role is to move the faculty towards securing research degree awarding powers. She helps novice scholars and researchers towards publication, ensuring that pedagogy and the knowledge base are appropriately underpinned. Gill entered higher education in 1992 at the same time as Radiography, her professional area, became a graduate profession. Her career has been an exciting developmental journey from Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging to Chair of Medical Imaging Education. She was Chair of the inaugural Masters steering group that became the Faculty Postgraduate Committee and in that role she engendered the development of Masters degrees across the faculty which shared the same professional values and culture; that promoted inquiry-led learning coupled with critical reflection in learners as they sought to achieve mastery of their professional field. She was aware that her teaching had to be current and she taught in a manner to acknowledge the necessary professional standards. In 2007, Gill was awarded a professorial chair in Medical Imaging Education. She was then Chair of the Faculty Academic Standards committee and International Projects Leader in Medical Imaging. She was the Chair of the EU funded project The Higher Education Network for Radiography in Europe (HENRE) and involved in developing a MSc under the Eramus Mundus initiative. Gill was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy in 2007. She already held an internal teaching fellowship. She has conducted quality reviews and examined internationally and is an assessor for the College of Radiographers Approvals/ Accreditation board. She is an Editorial Board member and reviewer for the profession's peer reviewed journal, and has contributed a guest editorial. She is a reviewer and Editorial Board member for Practitioner Research in Higher Education. She has chaired and presented at conferences worldwide and is widely published, particularly in her profession's peer reviewed journal Radiography.
