Job Title
Professor of Digital Media Education
Marcus Leaning is Professor of Digital Media Education at the University of Winchester and teaches on the Media and Communication degree. Impact of work Marcus has a strong interest in the issues faced by neuro-diverse students - specifically those with dyslexia and dyspraxia. Working with dyslexic specialists he has designed activities and experiences specifically for students who learn in alternative ways. Rather than adapt existing teaching materials for neuro-diverse students his approach is to design for a neuro-diverse student body by default. He makes extensive use of digital technology both in producing materials for students but also for having students create texts. Plans for the future Digital media is at the core of his work and this draws upon his wider work in which he advocates greater public understanding of the impact of digital media and a shift in educational practice to prepare students for an information rich 21st century. He is planning to develop a substantial digital resource to assist students in developing their understanding of media.
