Paul received his National Teaching Fellowship in 2004 while working as a Senior Lecturer within the Division of Radiography in the Faculty of Health at Birmingham City University. The Fellowship was awarded for his work using multimedia lectures to free up classroom contact time for the application of knowledge rather than its acquisition. The deployment of this technology created curriculum time for the introduction of a great deal more scenario-based learning. During the time of the HEA Subject Centres Paul carried out the role of Learning and Teaching Consultant (e-Learning) for the Health Sciences and Practice Subject Centre. Paul is currently a member of JISC's Learning and Teaching Experts Group and he led the T-SPARC (Technology-Supported Processes for Agile and Responsive Curricula) project within JISC's Institutional Approaches to Curriculum Design programme. Paul is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, holds a Doctorate in Learning and Learning Contexts (University of Birmingham), an MSc in Science (Open University) and undergraduate and postgraduate professional qualifications in the domain of diagnostic radiography. Paul's primary research interest relates to the use of video, particularly as a way to research collaborative learning and as a way to support stakeholder engagement in curriculum design. He writes regularly on a range of Higher Education practice issues. He is a Director of the international not-for-profit academic association 'The Institute for Learning in Higher Education', facilitating two international book-writing symposiums per year. Edited (and authored) books include: 'Learning to Research, Researching to Learn'; 'Technology-Enhanced Learning in Higher Education'; 'Learning Space Design in Higher Education'; 'Case-based Learning in Higher Education'; 'Quality Enhancement of University Teaching and Learning'; and 'Student Engagement: Identity, Motivation and Community'.
