National Teaching Fellow 2004 Stephen May works within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), part of the University of London, where he is Deputy Principal and Vice Principal for Teaching.   He is currently Academic Director of LIVE, the RVCs Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning dedicated to Lifelong and Independent Veterinary Education. LIVE's large educational themes include clinical skills development, learning in the workplace, active learning through research, and the development of the clinical teacher. He is also Chairman of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons' Education Policy and Specialisation Committee, in which role he has led the development of a structure for a new modular Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice for practising veterinary surgeons. Stephen's past work includes membership of the steering group for the Edinburgh-based ACETS project, working on the indexing and storage of reusable learning objects for medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, and leadership of the FDTL-4 project Optimising Computer-Aided and Traditional Assessment in Veterinary Education (OCTAVE).
