Alex Bols

Dr Alex Bols is Chief of Staff at the University of East Anglia before which he was Deputy Chief Executive Officer at GuildHE – one of the representative bodies in UK higher education – from 2014-2024. He was previously Executive Director of the 1994 Group, Head of Higher Education and Assistant Director (Research) at NUS, Senior Campaigns, Conferences and Events Officer at Universities UK and Secretary General of the European Students’ Union.

He has sat on various sector-wide groups including as a member of UK-wide Standing Committee on Quality Assessment, HEFCW’s Quality Assessment Committee, the Home Office’s Education Sector Forum and observing the QAA and AdvanceHE Boards.

He Chairs the Governance and Nominations Committee and is Board Member at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance and was previously on the Board at Writtle University College and Vice Chair of the Board at the University College of Osteopathy. He is also an experienced school governor having been a governor in six schools and chairing three of their governing bodies. His Doctor of Education was on student representation at UCL’s Institute of Education.
