Dr Sharon Mallon

Dr. Sharon Mallon (BSc. Ph.D, SFHEA) is a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health at the Open University who specialises in research into suicide prevention and postvention. She was one of the authors of RAPSS (Response and Prevention of Student Suicide) study and was awarded a PhD in for a qualitative study of young adults' suicides from the perspective of their friends.

She has also worked on a large mixed methods cohort study of suicide in Northern Ireland and is currently particularly interested in female suicide and the consequences of suicide on bereaved partners. Sharon is currently supervising three PhD research students exploring aspects of suicide and self-harm among young people. She co-edited and contributed to the newly published 'Preventing and Responding to Student Suicide: A Practical Guide for FE and HE Settings'. She has also helped develop the Suicide Safer and Student Mental Health Strategy at The Open University.
