Karra fell into HE some 7 years ago after a sustained career in Public and Family Law and a second stint as a mature, WP undergraduate student, she has found her academic interests gravitating towards educational 'gain;' specifically at the intersection of gender and class. As a Social Scientist, she has a driven belief in social mobility and is a keen advocate for change the HE sector. Karra interests and beliefs sit at the forefront of her practice , both as a lecturer and manager in college-based higher education, and have influenced her post-graduate pursuits including an MA in Gender Studies completed in 2021 and plans for further, doctoral research surrounding educational gain(s) shortly. Her current role at DNCG as Deputy Head of School for Engineering & Construction, stretches her experience, disciplinary knowledge and skill set into previously untested waters although, she has found (somewhat surprisingly) that they lend well to facilitating cultural shifts cross-curriculum; bringing together a vision for growth that centres students as partners with a strong commitment to quality and enrichment. A dominant feature of our growth strategy includes the promotion and management of the Scholarly Internship Programme which she shares jointly with her colleague, Jessica Iyamu. This provides opportunities for students and staff to collaborate on research projects and to develop individual research portfolios, propelling their career-readiness, academic engagement and opportunities for 'gain' across the lifespan.
