Pauline Osborne is Head of Higher Education at University Centre Somerset, part of Bridgwater & Taunton College. Pauline’s degree was in French and Education, followed by a PGCE and post graduate management qualification. She has worked in the NHS as well as a sixth form college and Further Education.

Pauline has taught French, English as a Foreign Language, management qualifications and teacher training (PGCE and Cert Ed). Having started in Further Education as a lecturer 25 years ago, she has been active in both engaging in and supporting research and scholarship within college-based Higher Education for the last 15 years. Pauline set up an annual research bidding round which has supported many others to engage in research and scholarship. Pauline’s interests include Higher Education in Further Education contexts, widening participation, sustainable development, ceramics, silver-smithing and music.

A chapter she wrote on sustainable development within an FE college was published in 2016. At the request of the OfS she also wrote an ‘effective practice’ case study on Bridgwater & Taunton College establishing and sponsoring a Multi Academy Trust, published by the OfS at the launch of their first raising attainment insights briefing and available on the OfS website.
