Job Title:Associate Professor
Institution: University of Leicester
Year: 2017
Dr Dawn Watkins commenced her academic career after completing a PhD in Law and Literature. This interdisciplinary theme has characterised much of her teaching. In particular, she has sought to both explore and utilise the interrelationship between law and narratives as a means to engage students with their learning - going so far as to arrange for 'real life' high-profile litigants to come in to talk to law students and share their stories.
Job Title:Adjunct Faculty Lecturer
Institution: Kingston University
Year: 2017
Hillary Wason joined Kingston University as an Adjunct Faculty Lecturer in 2004. She previously spent 15 years working in senior roles in the marketing and communications industry. In spite of the short-term, non-permanent nature of her contract, she has progressed to leading, planning and delivering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate marketing and business modules with both national and international students.
Job Title:Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Institution: Sheffield Hallam University
Year: 2017
Dr David Smith has been teaching in higher education since 2010 and teaches Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. David is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has been awarded the student-nominated Sheffield Hallam University Inspirational Teaching Award three times. As well as being a teacher, he is also an active researcher.

Year: 2017
Dr M Hasan Shaheed is a Senior Lecturer in Robotics and Renewable Energy in the School of Engineering and Materials Science, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). His career at QMUL is marked by a number of innovations and achievements. He received a Drapers' Prize for 'promoting student engagement and deep learning through a Problem Based Learning (PBL) strategy'.
Job Title:Reader in Sustainable Consumption
Institution: University of East Anglia
Year: 2017
Dr Gill Seyfang is a Reader in Sustainable Consumption, in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia. She heads a programme of world-leading research on 'grassroots innovations' for sustainability and draws on this to shape her transformative teaching on sustainable development. Gill is best-known for using performing arts pedagogies and 'Theoretical Theatre' as an engaging teaching tool for active learning about sustainability.

Dr Michael Scott's teaching philosophy is devoted to bringing the ancient world back to life through the use of creative and inspiring pedagogic methodologies for research-led practice. He uses techniques of experiential learning (e.g. a Greek symposium); encourages students as agents and directors of their own learning (e.g. in video-portal debates with students at other universities and in discussions with external specialists); and supports students in acquiring new skills to communicate their understanding (e.g. working with film directors to produce TV scripts or contributing to an online 'sacred sites' database).

Dr Alex Ryan is Director of Sustainability at the University of Gloucestershire, with responsibilities for academic development and organisational change in sustainability. She is dedicated to socially-relevant, globally-conscious and future-oriented higher education experiences and is known for her leadership and innovation in Education for Sustainability.
Job Title:Professorial Fellow in Chemical Education

Year: 2017
After learning his trade in the secondary school classroom, Professor David Read spent a decade in higher education where he pioneered a range of teaching innovations, establishing himself as a leading figure in UK chemistry education and gaining international recognition for his work. He constantly interacts with colleagues across the UK, sharing work and picking up novel ideas for implementation in his own practice.

Since winning NTF, Samantha has been appointed as Director of Student Education (Physics) and institutional academic lead for digital assessment. She was promoted to Professor of STEM Higher Education in April 2023.

Year: 2017
Currently an Associate Professor in Anatomy, Dr James Pickering's passion for teaching has been long-standing. Graduating from the University of Sheffield with an Anatomy degree, he then completed an anatomy-demonstrating, PhD studentship at the University of Leeds. Alongside his research training, he developed his interest in student education by demonstrating anatomy to medical and biomedical students before commencing a teaching and scholarship lectureship in 2012 where he focused on leading modules, designing innovative curricula and engaging in his own personal development.

Professor Pam Parker has been in education development for over nine years having spent 16 years in nurse education and prior to that a nurse in practice. Her values of supporting others to achieve their potential and believe in their ability, treating people equally and valuing individual contribution, have underpinned all of her roles. She also reflects on her practice and engages in professional development, both formally and informally, throughout the year.
Job Title:Faculty Academic Development Partner
Institution: De Montfort University
Year: 2017
Dr Angela O'Sullivan champions inclusive practice. She has drawn on her experience of teaching science in vocational further education colleges, higher education and a prison to develop a very clear scholarly humanist pedagogy focused around motivation and supportive, yet autonomous learning. Her ethos is that learning should be relevant, 'hands on' and fun. Her students recognise how much she enjoys her role. As one comments: "One of the few genuine lecturers who loves their subject but most of all, loves teaching it."
