Job Title:Cross-Cutting Director of Learning and Teaching for Digital Learning / Senior University Teaching in Information and Dental Technology
Institution: University of Sheffield
Year: 2016
Christopher Stokes is a Senior Teacher and University Director of Digital Learning at the University of Sheffield. Chris is known for developing engaging and innovative teaching approaches to teaching dental technology (making false teeth) and digital literacy skills, and now, as a Director of Digital Learning, is helping others to successfully integrate technology into their teaching across the University.

Year: 2016
After working as a primary school teacher, Professor Chris Wilkins moved into teacher education, seeing this as an opportunity to influence the professional learning of the teachers of the future. As a teacher and then leader of learning he focused on promoting critical inquiry-based pedagogy underpinned by rigorous scholarship.

Dr Carl Senior is currently Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching in the School of Life and Health Sciences at Aston University as well as Fellow of the British Psychological Society and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. After completing his post-doctoral training at the Depersonalisation Research Unit, which is based in the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, he joined the Laboratory of Brain & Cognition at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA as a Visiting Research Fellow.
Job Title:Reader in Education and Literacies

Dr Candice Satchwell is a Reader in Education and Literacies at the University of Central Lancashire. She was a Lecturer in English in Further Education before studying for a PhD in Literacy Education. She then worked in two concurrent part-time jobs: as lecturer and programme leader for an English degree in a college; and as senior researcher at Lancaster University, working on a series of research projects relating to education and literacy. Candice is Principal Investigator on Stories to Connect, a large AHRC-funded project (2015-2017)

Anne Phillips' approach to teaching and learning has been influenced by her background as a Diabetes Specialist Nurse. Her personal pedagogical philosophy engages interdisciplinary health professional students in practice changing education in a wide range of diabetes care delivery across the UK and internationally. Through reflecting on learning into practice and practice into learning, Anne stimulates this catalyst in education for diabetes practice development.

Andrew Middleton has a background in art and music. His creative drive is core to his practice as an academic developer. His career in higher education began by looking after special collections of modern British art. He was responsible for curating touring exhibitions of sculpture and photographs as a way to bring new life to archival works leading to his commitment to open access to materials and learning for the benefit of all. Multimedia CD-ROM and website production in the 1990s continued this drive.

Dr Andy Pitchford believes that the creation of innovative community placements can transform the learning of students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In his current role he is committed to a wide range of community interventions that simultaneously make a positive impact on the local environment while offering students a new set of lenses with which to view the world.

Dr Alison Twells is a historian in the Department of Humanities at Sheffield Hallam University. Over the past decade, she has developed pioneering modules that enable students to explore the relationship between history, heritage and regeneration in South Yorkshire and the north of England more broadly and to work in partnership with public and community-based historians.

Dr Catherine Watts has worked at the University of Brighton for over 30 years in the fields of language teaching and learning (German and English, including Old and Middle English). She firmly believes that languages are of crucial importance to young people, enabling them to compete effectively on international stages and to maximise opportunities in the increasingly global economy of the 21st century.

Since Dr Roz Sunley began teaching in 1997 she has believed it essential to model passion and enthusiasm for learning. After an earlier career in sales, recruitment and local politics, her approach has always been based on challenge and encouragement, where links between classroom learning and 'real-life' are understood and evidenced. Students and colleagues continue to offer generous feedback on her energy and passion for teaching, their positive learning experiences and increased motivation. This inspires her to continually develop and improve her professional practice.

Professor Catherine McDermott is a dynamic and inspirational teacher who has pioneered the new international discipline of curating through her MA Curating Contemporary Design course at Kingston University in partnership with the Design Museum London. Her programme championed a new generation of curators, enabling postgraduate students from very different educational and cultural backgrounds to make a significant impact in the creative sector.

Dr Nicola Martin has worked with disabled people in education for over 30 years in school and post compulsory education. She is currently Principal Lecturer leading on research and higher degrees in education and previously held leadership roles at the London School of Economics, Sheffield Hallam University, University of Derby and Lewisham College. She is highly qualified with British and American higher degrees and specialist postgraduate qualifications. She has studied and worked in America, India and New Zealand.
