Mary Thornton is a 2004 National Teaching Fellow, a former Association of National Teaching Fellows Committee member, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is currently  Professor of Education  in the School of Education at the University of Hertfordshire. Her NTF project focused on widening participation and the improvement of accessible learning and teaching, nationally and internationally, in order to better meet the needs of increasingly diverse student cohorts in higher education. She is leader of a UK-India Educational Research Initiative (UKIERI) project, working in collaboration with the TATA Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai, on widening participation issues.

Dr Kirsten Hardie (NTF 2004) is Associate Professor at the Arts University at Bournemouth. Kirsten has extensive teaching experience across a range of levels and disciplines within art, design and media. Her passions, research and scholarly activities extend across a range of diverse fields.

Paul Murray is Associate Professor specialising in Environmental Building and sustainability thinking within the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment. Both the University and the wider academic community have benefited from his dedication and commitment in his role as a supportive teacher and inspirational leader. A major contribution to teaching and learning is his HEFCE-funded FDTL3 project on Student Centred Learning in Construction Education.

Tracy Harwood is a Senior Research Fellow in the Institute of Creative Technologies at De Montfort University. Before joining the IOCT, Tracy was a lecturer in Marketing where her teaching methods incorporated traditional delivery approaches with online, initiatives which led to the award of NTF. As a marketing professional, she also uses her expertise to support students in developing start-up initiatives, and in 2004 was the mentor for the Graduate Business of the Year.
