Symon Quy has worked in education for over twenty years, after gaining a first degree in English and Film at St. Mark and St. John, Plymouth. He qualified as a teacher of English at the University of Cambridge in 1991 before taking post in a West London comprehensive school, where he rose to Head of Department. He then went on to complete a Masters' degree in Education at the University of London and an M. Ed in Research at the University of Cambridge, as the first platform of his doctorate.

Professor Duncan Lawson is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Formative Education at Newman University. At the time of his award, he was Associate Dean in the Faculty of Engineering and Computing at Coventry University. By background, Duncan is a mathematician and much of his work has focused on supporting students (of disciplines other than mathematics) making the transition from pre-university to university mathematics.

Dudley Shallcross is a Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry in the School of Chemistry, and Director of the Primary Science Teaching Trust since 2010. Previously (2005-2010) he was Outreach Director for Bristol ChemLabS, the only HEFCE funded Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Practical Chemistry in the UK.
