Elaine Wilson is a Senior Lecturer in Science Education within the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge. A winner of the University's Pilkington Teaching Prize, Elaine has ensured that the importance of high quality teacher education in science has been centrally recognised through her work with virtual learning environments and through co-development of an inter-disciplinary project with partnership schools, culminating in a presentation at a national conference. Elaine is also an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in recognition of her work in support of chemistry education. She has written, edited or contributed to several books and international educational journals.

Institution at the time of award: Canterbury Christ Church University. Dr Elizabeth Chapman Hoult is Director of Knowledge Transfer in the Faculty of Education, Canterbury Christ Church University. She is also joint co-ordinator of the South East Coastal Community project (SECC) which is a £3m core-funded initiative to develop new and innovative models for universities to work with their communities that incorporates nine universities along the south-east coast of England.

James Atherton is semi-retired, but now undertakes sessional work for the School of Education of the University of Bedfordshire, and works half-time for the Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning Development at Oxford Brookes (for the rest of the 08-09 academic year).

Institution at the time of Award: Sheffield Hallam University. Professor Brian Hudson is Emeritus Professor of Education and former Head of the School of Education and Social Work (2012-16) at the University of Sussex. He is Guest Professor in the Department of Educational Studies at Karlstad University in Sweden where he works with the ROSE research group - 'Research on Subject-specific Education'. Currently he is a Co-Investigator for the KOSS Network: "Knowledge and Quality across School Subjects and Teacher Education” supported through an Educational Sciences network grant (2018-03603) from the Swedish Research Council (2019-2022).

Sue Palmer is an independent education consultant and coach. Using her previous HE experience as Associate Dean for teaching learning and assessment and student support and guidance, and as Faculty Tutor, and Director of a teaching and research centre, her work focuses on recruitment and retention. She is managing director of Life-Coach UK and its subsidiary University Planning Consultants. Based on her research with students prematurely withdrawing from university, her work with potential students, their parents and teachers, and with university departments has seen an improvement in retention statistics.

Paul Bartholomew is Director of Learning Innovation and Professional Practice at Aston University. He has responsibility for four teams: the Academic Team, responsible for learning and teaching practice, academic staff development and curriculum design; the Quality Team, responsible for academic quality and academic regulations; the Learning Development Centre, responsible for student academic support and the Learning Achievement Advice Team, responsible for supporting student progression and retention.

Celia Hunt is a Reader in Continuing Education (Creative Writing) at the University of Sussex, where she has established the Certificate in Creative Writing, as well as the MA in Creative Writing and Personal Development, the first academic programme in Britain to focus on creative writing as a tool for self-reflection and improvement in the practical delivery of healthcare, education and work in the community. Celia was instrumental, together with others, in the foundation of Lapidus (The Association for the Literary Arts in Personal Development).
