Vice Chancellor Masterclass

Our Vice Chancellor Masterclass focuses on Politics and HE Policy Making in Changing Times. This one day face to face development session is on 24 April 2024 in central London, starting at 10am (registration at 9:45) and closing at 4pm, and offers an excellent opportunity for networking with your peers.

This highly interactive Masterclass will be run in partnership with Eden & Partners, who have a long track record of working with leaders across a variety of sectors, including HE, to develop their political understanding skills to be more politically astute and influence politics locally and nationally.

The day will include conversations with current and former Ministers, civil servants and MPs allowing you to better understand some of the ‘assumptions’ they make about higher education and what they are looking to university leaders for.

Outcomes

  • Provide time and space alongside other VCs to think about developing your political connections and networks whilst engaging in conversations with current and former politicians and civil servants helping you to ‘walk in their shoes’;
  • Enable you to be better placed to both lead yourselves and your institutions to work in a more meaningful way alongside political and government leaders, above and beyond engaging with local MPs;
  • Feel better equipped to engage your boards in this work, thereby ‘sharing the load’;
  • Better understand how some of the key issues facing HE leaders are seen by those in policy making and implementation roles with whom you will need to engage if the change you seek is to become reality
  • Test some of the issues you are looking to progress on and receive constructive feedback.
  • Take away practical ideas and approaches to support you in your engagement with local and national politicians
